October 1833: Placed an ad in the newspaper stating he would not be responsible for any debts in his wife’s (Lucy Goodwin) name as she had left her home.

August 1836: Charged with stealing a watch and snuffbox, not guilty.
March 1839: Possibly the same Edward White who was acquitted of stealing a watchmaker’s vice with clock and watchmaker Richard Waters.

From January 1841: Business partnership with W C D Smith, jeweller and silversmith.

The Hobart Town Advertiser 19 August 1842:
‘To Watchmakers. – A Good workman who understands Lever escapements may meet with constant employ and liberal wages, on application to White and Smith’s, 66 Elizabeth Street.
To prevent trouble, no drunkards or colonial Watch Jobbers need apply.’
