Other Grandson of convict, Thomas Walton (and Mary Williams), transported to Tasmania (Van Diemen’s Land) in 1821. Thomas worked as a sawyer, Sheriff’s officer, and yeoman after completing his ten-year sentence for forging notes he had in his possession. He died at his residence in Upper Goulburn Street, Hobart, in 1852, with Frank’s father, William, recorded as the informant of death. It seems Thomas did rather well for himself, leaving several monetary bequeaths to family members in Tasmania and England.

Charles Tasman Walton, Frank’s younger brother, was also a watchmaker.

April 1885: Frank, while employed by Launceston watchmaker and jeweller, John Sparrow, gave evidence in a court case regarding ‘the illegal detention of a watch and breach of agreement.’ Work colleague John Malachi Procter also gave evidence.

Daily Telegraph 12 February 1889:
‘Wanted, an owner for Fox Terrier pups, Frank Walton, Watchmaker.’

Approx. early 1890s: Moved to Victoria, recorded as a watchmaker on electoral rolls and directories.

February 1893: Frank’s sister Alice married Hobart watchmaker and jeweller Herbert Henry Willison.

January 1897: Death of Frank’s father, William, at his residence, Corby Hall, Upper Goulburn Street, Hobart.

March 1898: Death of brother Charles Tasman Walton, watchmaker.

March 1904: Death of mother, Rosina Walton.
His mother’s will lists Frank as a watchmaker of Auburn, Victoria, and an executor and administrator of her estate. She left him a property at Lansdowne Crescent in Hobart, six pictures, and a mirror. The extensive property bequeathed was a testament to a family who had done well, despite the convict origins. The family home, Corby Hall, was advertised for sale by auction as part of Rosina’s estate in early 1908.

Death 6 July 1958, Burnley, Melbourne, Victoria, recorded as a 94-year-old pensioner.

Burial: Fawkner Memorial Park, Moreland City, Melbourne, Victoria.
