12 September 1921: A wanted ad was placed in the Advocate for a Manager for the business of the late Arthur Stokell. Requirements were previous experience and good salesmanship. November 1922: A Public Trustee application was made to the courts to sell the business to widow Ada Stokell and for some assets to be sold to raise the money for the purchase. The application was accepted. Arthur and Ada’s sons, jeweller Arthur (Greg) and watchmaker Trevor, became involved in the business. Stokell’s were still trading in the 1950s. |
