29 January 1945: Enlisted for service in World War II June 1951: Ron and Emmaline moved from Wynyard to Penguin, where he undertook clock, watch, and jewellery repairs from the front of their home at 96 Main Road. 1953: Two brick shops were constructed for the business at the front of the home, and Ron traded as R R Smith Jewellers or Ron Smith Jewellers. Giftware lines such as crystal and crockery were also offered for sale. 1953: Ron was part of the team that installed the Ulverstone Memorial Clock, completed in December 1953. 1978: Ron’s son Gary started training in watchmaking, following in his father’s footsteps. Approx. 1993: Ron retired. |
