November 1889: Purchased Arthur Henry Field’s watchmaking and jewellery business at Scottsdale.

Approx. 1892: Manufacturing jewellery business partnership with jeweller James Coles Taylor (Taylor and Sharp).
1897: Taylor and Sharp advertised for sale a ‘good country watchmakers’ and jewellers’ business, cheap; splendid opportunity.’

Approx. December 1899: Taylor and Sharp opened a store in Murray Street, adding retail to their manufacturing business. The Miller’s Chambers workshop continued under James Taylor’s guidance.

By 1901: Opened a second store at 61 Elizabeth Street due to business growth.
May 1904: Dissolution of partnership by mutual consent. The business was continued by John Sharp under the Taylor and Sharp name.

October 1905: Taylor and Sharp purchased the stock and assets of the late Michael McNamara, Hobart watchmaker, and announced they would continue the business in his late premises, Miller’s Buildings, 96 Liverpool Street, Hobart. The Murray Street premises were vacated.

By October 1910: Advertised at 47 Elizabeth Street, Hobart.
August 1934: Taylor and Sharp were appointed as caretakers of the Hobart’s General Post Office clock following the resignation of Oliver Nielson after 28 years.

1944: Taylor and Sharp, purchased by William Bede Williamson of Woollahra, New South Wales.
