Other 1880: Watchmaker, Deloraine. Closed business by May.

July 1881: Charles reported stolen from his room at the Exchange Hotel, Beaconsfield, a brown leather travelling bag containing three gold lever watches, two English and one Geneva; 14 silver lever watches, one Geneva silver lever watch, and assorted jewellery. Three brothers, John Barrett, James Barrett junior, and William Barrett, were arrested on suspicion but later discharged. Charles offered a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrators.
October 1882: The trial verdict was James Barrett charged with stealing and Thomas O’Keefe with receiving stolen goods, the property of Charles Randall and Magnus Susman (jewellery importer). Barrett escaped from the George Town gaol, and the verdict for O’Keefe was ‘ignored.’
Charles Randall’s whereabouts following these events have not been found.
