1881: A warrant was issued for the arrest of Emanuel Oliver in Hobart, charged with fraud. It was supposed he had recently travelled with Newton, an American auctioneer.

June 1891: An auction was held at Elizabeth Street, Hobart, to sell the stock of Emanuel Oliver, including watches, clocks, jewellery, plated ware, spectacles, and shop fittings.
July 1891: Emanuel was arrested at Waratah, charged with obtaining money by using valueless cheques. Due to lack of evidence, the charge was dismissed.

Known as the Manager of the Anglo-American Watch Company.
