Other | According to the Herald newspaper of 11 April 1951, the migrants arriving on the Skaubryn (with some exceptions) were under contract to work for two years at occupations selected by the Australian Government. Peter’s first job was sugar cane cutting in Queensland, followed by train track installation.
From approx. 1961-1987: Worked from his residence in Glenorchy, Hobart, and repaired watches for Myer for 19 years, delivering and collecting work twice weekly. Peter also undertook trade work for watchmaker George Norris. He returned to his hometown, Postojna in Yugoslavia, for a five-week holiday and died from a heart attack after being there for three weeks. |
