July 1904: Due to strong support during the first 18 months in business, Godfrey Matthews had a new shop built, with a residence attached. It was constructed of brick, a cement front, and large plate glass windows.
1916: William Brooks, watchmaker and jeweller from Victoria purchased the Sheffield business.

Death 26 November 1920, Launceston General Hospital, after being found unconscious at the foot of the stairs to his workshop.
