‘TIMEKEEPING IN THE FAMILY,  HOBART – Three men of the one family who have been successive timekeepers for the Tasmanian Racing Club were entertained at a function at the TRC meeting at Elwick on Saturday.

They were Messrs A F, A J and A B Golding, who, with the late Mr. William Golding, represent four generations of timekeeping for the club. Mr A B Golding recently was appointed timekeeper in succession to his father, Mr A J Golding, who retired. The family has held the position for 70 successive years.

The newly appointed timekeeper is a great-grandson of the late Mr William Golding, who was appointed to the position in 1883. Mr A F Golding began his 50 years as timekeeper in 1890, and was succeeded by his son, Mr A J Golding in 1941. The function on Saturday was attended by the Governor Sir Ronald Cross.’
