Zeehan and Dundas Herald 8 May 1908:
‘Having secured the services of Mr G Gandy
(late of J Stevens & G Whitfield, Launceston) to manage our watchmaking and jewellery department, we are opening up a splendid assortment of watches, clocks, rings, brooches, links, electroplate etc., at city prices. It will pay you to call & inspect our display.
Watches, Jewellery and Phonographs repaired and guaranteed. Louis Issell, Watchmaker and Jeweller and Phonograph Dealer, Queenstown.’

21 October 1915: Enlisted World War I, recorded as an assistant council clerk, and worked as a clock and watchmaker with John Stevens of Launceston for three years.

According to the North Eastern Advertiser of 15 May 1925, George was ‘completely run down just prior to his contracting pneumonia’ and was known to be ‘one of the most efficient council clerks in the State.’ Doctors’ certificates stated his lungs had been affected by gas during the war.

Death 16 April 1925, North East Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, Scottsdale, aged 37.
