The Hobarton Mercury 2 May 1856:
‘Having purchased Mr Colin Baines’s business next to Mr Marshall, Saddler, Liverpool Street the customers of Mr Baines are requested to call and point out any watches that may have been left with him for repairs. The business in future will be carried on by T A Hamilton,  Jun. 30th April 1856.’

May 1857: Colin advertised commencing business from his private residence at De Witt Street, Battery Point.

1858: Death of father George Bain, Scotland. He left Colin a clock engine he had manufactured.

1866: Insolvent court.
Tasmanian Morning Herald 14 September 1866:
‘In re Colin Bain. This as an adjourned first meeting and for discharge. The insolvent appeared in person. In reply to the learned Commissioner the insolvent said he was a watchmaker and kept a shop. He never had much property in this colony, but in Victoria he had. The Commissioner said it appeared no debts had been proved, though the amount seemed large. Still he had no materials before him; no creditors came forward, and therefore the insolvent must take his discharge.
Discharged accordingly.’
