The Mercury (Hobart) 8 June 1887:
Alice Maud Hargrave summoned her husband, George H Hargrave for maintenance. Defendant said he had no defence to offer. Complainant, a young woman with a child in her arms, stated that her husband was a watchmaker, but she did not know what wages he was earning, as he never gave her any money. Whatever he earned, he spent upon himself in drink. The defendant was ordered to pay 12 shillings a week toward his wife’s support, the first payment to be made on Monday.’

George and his family travelled back and forth to England several times.
